📓 Story | Why a Newsletter?

More like a quick backstory of me, Lauren.

There are two parts of me you should know:

  1. Since my first day of college, I've never been consistent: new apartment, new job, new school, new relationship, new language, new country every 1-2 years.

  2. The only constant in my life has been writing: 16 years + 11 journals.

In March 2024, I picked up the Artist's Way after watching this. Not only these entrepreneurs, but also Tim Ferris and Rick Rubin recommended the book. The marketing rule of 7 probably applies here.

I know 5 people who've bought the book, and 2 who have enjoyed it. Sources: Kirby and Kamaria.

The only non-negotiable of this book is to write every day, 3 pages a day, simply stream of consciousness.

So 3 mornings and 9 pages in I decided… why don't I also write, online?

For 120 days I wrote every day on LinkedIn (Source). This gave me a new perspective on a lost art: consistency.

I'd heard from online internet celebrities writing online is liberating. This, coupled with the fact that I have written online several times before (Source: my first solo trip in 2015), enjoyed it, and have realized over the years that: people like my writing style.

In April 2024, I signed up for Beehiiv, this newsletter platform, and I had a newsletter name, logo, a Google sheet where I would populate ideas, everything I thought I needed and… it sat there. I had grand ideas, but without a solid purpose, my implementation of a newsletter ran flat.

I realized I wanted to write for an outcome, and not the joy of it.

That was the problem. Need to focus on the enjoyment, the journey, not the destination. This is a lesson I continue to learn in new ways every year.

One would think that once I learned the lesson after solo traveling, the realization would solidify. I continually recognize that to be a false concept.

The hero's journey unfolds in new ways every season of our life.

I was in the season of testing, writing every day on LinkedIn.

Now, the season has changed. It's time to launch.

It's time for me now to press Send.
